I wanna break down that hand when I had KK all in against AQ pre-flop and see how much money I actually made.
I had KdKs and he had AcQh. The odds on that are 71.44 for me to win, and .34% to tie. I got ~$30 in and so did he, for a grand total of ~$60 in the pot. So how much did I profit? $30? I would say no.
It’s no difficult calculation to do $30 times .71. The answer is $21, which means that my actual profit for that play was about $21. I like to think of poker in this way, with a long view on profits and losses. I think it helps me make better decisions. And I also believe that it’s simply correct to observe the cards and the money as an illusion and the math as the reality.
