A Reward

Finally, I have a big up session. After several sessions of ending up slightly down, I just had a two hour session at the .02/.05 in which I left up $20. Like I said in my last post, there was a hole or two in my game, but honestly I was just getting crap cards. [...]

Implied Odds

I’ve been doing nothing but paying the rake lately, and I finally figured out why.
I’m paying too much for draws because I’m always assuming that my implied odds are the other guy’s entire stack. That’s stupid. I’ll stop doing that now.

A Bluff

Why do we play poker? To make money off of idiots? For the intellectual exersise? Perhaps. But the real reason is so that we can go all-in and bluff people out of a giant pot while holding absolute bupkis.

Reading Is Dangerous

I just read through No Limit Hold ‘em: Theory and Practice from beginning to end. After having read it, my game was entirely screwed up. I was overthinking every hand. My judgement was shot to hell. I got AA all in against KK pre-flop, except this time I was the one with KK. I was [...]

Outpipped

Here’s a mistake I made that I should have actually avoided if I had thought a little more clearly.
I hold TQs. The flop isĀ  TTJ two clubs. I have trips and I bet it out. I get raised. Now I have to think. I end up deciding that there’s no way he’s on a drawing [...]

A Little Deception

A little deception can go a long way. Both of my big hands tonight were based on a small deception. I got Mike all in on the flop with top pair against my bottom set because I raised 22 pre-flop. He didn’t think I could have cards that matched a flop of T62 having raised [...]

The Conversion Of The United States Of America Into Jesusland Has Hit A Speedbump

Somebody has been naughty.

A Brussels think-tank has accused the US government of reneging on commitments made to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) over internet gaming…
The forum believes that the US could be liable for up to US$100 billion in trade concessions to European industries after placing illegal discriminatory trade restrictions on European gaming operators.
US faces [...]

Pocket Aces

What’s the value of a big hand like pocket aces? I’m learning more and more that it’s not because you can win big pots with them. It’s because they will stand up most often to a showdown.
I realize that this is a fundamental fact, but it’s one to appreciate. I feel a lot better now [...]

Raising A Draw

Raising a draw on the flop is a nice trick I like to pull now and again. I did it just now, but this time I forgot the second half of the trick.
The guy bet out the flop. I had the flush draw so I min-raised him. He thought for a while and called. The [...]

Overpair

I just lost $6 on overpair. This is not the first time I got excited about an overpair. It’s partially because I will often play JJ and TT unraised preflop, and partially just awful judgement post-flop.
My new motto is
Overpair: It’s Only One PairĀ
