Schizo Poker

I took down a small pot, but that’s not the point. My bet on the  turn made no sense.

From the BB, I go heads up with The Spare Tire, J4. I hit bottom two pair on a flop with two spades. I bet into the only other guy in the hand. He calls.

On the turn, the second Jack hits. Now I have a boat (toot! toot!) So what do I do? I bet the pot.

That was dumb. If he were on the spade draw, I should have let him continue to draw. Because if he hits it, then I might get a lot of money.  Instead I just blew him out of the pot.

I was thinking that maybe he was slowplaying top pair, or maybe he even had the case Jack. But in restrospect, that was just misplaced hope. I think it’s good to ram and jam when you have good evidence that somebody else has a second-best hand, but sometimes the ram and jam is too automatic for me.

I probably could have gotten more money if I had bet half the pot, and let him hit his flush. Putting him on the flush draw would have been the obvious read. And even if he doesn’t hit, I at least get his turn call.
