Transition

After playing nothing but Omaha for a week or two, I sat at a Hold ‘em table for some practice before going to Mountaineer this weekend. I assumed that I would be even tighter and I was right.
I found it much easier to fold small pairs preflop, and to only play suited connectors when the [...]

Beer And Sleep Depravation

Interesting fact about myself: After an eight hour session of poker, constantly drinking beer, by five O’clock A.M., my decision making abilities have a less reliable quality than usual.
Alan got me all in when I had queen high in lowball pot limit Omaha (the fact that we were even playing lowball pot limit Omaha should [...]

Bluff And Rebluff

The outright bluff is useless in Omaha, since your opponent could be on any number of draws and you’ll never know it. But the rebluff is fantastic. If I can ID someone as a bluffer, a rebluff is so much more potent in Omaha, since it’s that much easier to arbitrarily represent the nuts, or [...]

Level 1

Level 1 thinking is when a player considers what another player’s cards might be.
I have to remember that a lot of the times, a Level 1 player is only capable of analyzing an opponent’s cards as “He might be bluffing!” Every once in a while, I forget not to bluff into these players.
Whoops!

Omaha

I had a six buy-in swing. I went down six-buy ins on suck-outs and bad plays at the beginning, and then I just won them all back. Now that I understand the game better than I did a few days ago, I can see why there’s so much money to be made in Omaha. I’m [...]

Fold The Second Nut

I have folded the second nut on the turn twice tonight. Omaha is a crazy game. I’m still up in Omaha, but we’ll see how long that lasts. I’m still not sure if I actually know what I’m doing. I’m just being very very tight for now.

PLO

I re-read my Omaha book and gave some Omaha a try today.
I made two textbook noob mistakes, getting caught with under-set and pushing a wrap that I thought was ahead when I really wasn’t, and I still finished up ahead. I feel that after I made my noob mistakes today that I will feel more [...]

Pass The Junk

We played stupid games tonight for the first time in a long time. One of the games was called Pass The Junk. Here’s how it’s played.
It’s high/low, no qualifier, pot limit. Everyone is dealt six cards. Everyone passes three cards to the left. Then players consider their hands, and pass two to the left. Then [...]

In General

In general, I’m playing very well online lately, but my live game just blows. I got schooled tonight by a 0th level player when I couldn’t fold cowboys. I’m in general, playing without a plan, and finding it difficult to read hands. A lot of the problem is just that my home game is [...]
