So, like the mafia, poker has sucked me back in again. I bought in for $200 a month ago and rode some swings up to almost $500, and then back down to about $350, trying different styles of play the whole time — re-learning the game.
After my latest crash, I have re-nitted myself. I just [...]
I’ve been playing very well lately, but I know a heater when I see one. I’ve made about $500 in three days playing twenty and thirty dollar Sit ‘n Gos — not even multi-tabling, just hitting a few casually every day.
If anybody needs some good luck out there, I’ll let you rub my belly for [...]

In the middle of February:

I have 19 Buy Ins for $50 No Limit Hold ‘em. One more to go.
Two weeks later…

I just earned 20 buy-ins for $50 No Limit Hold ‘Em, so I’m moving up in stakes.
Yes, it took me two weeks to make that last fifty bucks. But [...]

I just earned 20 buy-ins for $50 No Limit Hold ‘Em, so I’m moving up in stakes. $50 No Limit Hold ‘Em is the highest level of micro-stakes. If and when I double my 1k bankroll into 2k, I’ll have the bankroll to play Big Boy Poker — Low Stakes $.50/$1 No Limit Texas Hold [...]

I have 19 Buy Ins for $50 No Limit Hold ‘em. One more to go.
After about 40k hands and one 8 buy-in down-swing, I’m making about $14/hour at $25 NL.
I currently have 36 buy-ins for $50 No Limit. Hopefully over the next week I can make the remaining 4 to hit my goal of 40 buy-ins before I move up.
This move has me feeling more nervous than the move from $10 to $25 for some reason. I don’t know if I should stick around [...]

I’m moving up to $25 buy-in No Limit. I have 19 buy-ins, which is one fewer than the supposedly requisite 20 buy-ins, but since the rake will be half as much than it was at $10 No Limit, I think moving up one buy-in early is fine. And I’m setting myself a stop-gap of 17 [...]

Contrary to popular opinion, Sklansky does not say to push all-in on the river with a powerful hand. What he does say is to estimate your EV for pushing all-in and compare it to your EV for making a pot-bet, and a half-pot bet, and then decide accordingly. If your EV for pushing all in [...]
After a week of serious Omaha, I’m moving up in levels, having acquired my goal of ten buy-ins at the next level.
My week has been pretty solid, with no real errors, save one truly idiotic mistake. On a flop of 2J9o, I hit top two pair heads-up against a small stack. Two pair is good [...]
